Where the Scarf came from
It's our second time creating a company in a market where we are outsiders. Do you know why this works? Because we're forced to be humble enough to know that it's the customer who really understands, not us.
Hi, I'm Eduardo Belotti. One of the founders of Scarf.
Ever since I was little, I've always had a hard time concentrating in class.
I've failed every year of my life since fifth grade. In almost every subject.
My parents thought I was doing it for fun.
All the more so because I was even failing English, given that I was literate in the United States and spoke it fluently.
I was a source of frustration for my parents and a joke for the rest of the family.
In 2017, things changed.
I created a technology start-up without knowing how to program and, in just three years, I sold the company to the Empiricus.
How?
Online course.
I took a course on how to create a startup and one on how to program an app.
I realized that my difficulty wasn't in learning. It was learning in a classroom. I was able to learn much better online.
After being acquired by Empiricus, I stayed with the company for two years until I decided to leave to think about what to do with my life.
Every entrepreneur dreams of doing an MBA at Stanford and I was no different. I was determined to do it while thinking about the idea for my next startup.
After researching more about how it all worked, I realized that this wasn't for me.
Remember the recoveries, year after year? Stanford and I are like oil and water.
I'm not designed to learn in a classroom. I learn on the internet.
And that's where Scarf comes in.
It wasn't time to go back to formal education. It was time to REVOLUTION formal education.
My partners and I, the same people who created Real Valor, founded Scarf because we believe in something bigger: the future of learning is on the internet. This is where content creators can transform lives with what they know. I'm living proof of that.
But the classic online course model is not enough. Learning is multimodal. Today, infoproducers don't just sell courses. They offer individual and group mentoring, communities, events and much more.
Our goal with Scarf is simple: to give the complete infrastructure for this multimodal learning. This way, those who sell knowledge can concentrate on what they do best - educating.
Leave the technology to us. Your focus should be on changing lives.
Thank you for reading and for giving Scarf a try. If you have any questions or suggestions, you can contact me directly at eduardo@scarf.club. I'd love to hear from you. And there's lots more
